Ljubljana's map shows a tight medieval core on the right bank of the Ljubljanica River, with baroque street patterns radiating outward. The river curves in a sharp horseshoe bend through downtown, its embankments defining the oldest neighborhoods, while 19th-century grid streets fan out to the south and east. Tivoli Park sprawls as a massive green wedge on the western edge, the Ljubljana Marshes stretch north of the city center, and the Ljubljana Hills rise steeply to the south.
