Male Map Art
Malé sits on a coral atoll in the Indian Ocean, its street grid compressed into less than two square kilometers. The city is ringed by a seawall and breakwater, with the harbor opening to the east toward the airport island of Hulhulé, connected by a causeway. Artificial land reclamation has expanded the southern districts, visible as geometric additions to the original organic street pattern radiating from the Friday Mosque at the center.
