Anchorage Map Art
Anchorage sits at the convergence of Cook Inlet and the Knik Arm, with downtown pinned between these two water bodies and the Chugach Mountains rising immediately to the east. The street grid runs north-south and east-west from downtown, interrupted by Ship Creek running through the center and by the broad tidal flats that define the inlet's edge. The Alaska Railroad corridor cuts diagonally through the city, connecting the port to inland routes, while the Seward and Glenn Highways form the main arteries radiating outward into the surrounding valleys.
